FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS
Q. Can you add the 2 Bike
Extension (1-1051) to the 2 Bike Folding Rack (1-1110)?
A. Yes! You can add the 2 Bike
Extension to the 2" 2 Bike Folding Rack. We do not make a 2 Bike
Extension for the 1.25" Folding Rack. You can purchase the
"Original" Raxter Bike Rack, try it out, find that you love it and
then purchase the 2 Bike Extension to make your rack a 4 Bike
Carrier. Then, if you need the option to fold up the rack, you can
purchase the Folding 2" Assembly and your "Original" 2 Bike Rack
is now a Folding 4 Bike Rack!
Q. Why does the Raxter not
have the ability to fold upward?
A. It does .... now! Our
dealers asked for it and we've come up with a folding option that
we feel keeps with our philosophy. It is still the best value
rack, only better, because it folds up out of the way. We've
combined steel with gloss black paint to bring a new and improved
version of Raxter! One touch of a button and you are on your way,
whether it's folding up to park in your garage or folding down to
load the bikes for a quick ride! We still have the "Original" for
those who want the greatest possible value and the least weight
and no folding ability. But for those who like the idea of keeping
the rack on, adding the folding option is just for you! This
option adds only 4 pounds to the already lightweight Raxter.
Q. Why does the Raxter use
simple Velcro straps instead of "tech-ier" ratchets and buckles?
A. We feel the Velcro straps
are easier and more intuitive to use, are easier to replace and
more reliable. Everyone knows how to use a Velcro strap.
Q. Is an anti-sway system available
for Raxter?
A. Yes. We have an anti-sway
spring nut and bolt system available. This system is available in
2" and 1.25". We also have locking hitch pins available.
Q. Can the Raxter carry
tandems or recumbents?"
A. Yes, the Raxter can carry
short and medium wheel base recumbents. We now have available
extensions that will accommodate long wheelbase (69") recumbents.
It will also carry tandems.
Q. Does the Raxter lock the
bikes and lock to the vehicle?
A. There are no features
incorporated into the Raxter for locking the rack to the car or
the bike to the rack. By doing so, we would implicitly accept
responsibility for theft, a liability we cannot accept. All locks
can be defeated. Remember, we've designed the Raxter to enable you
to easily remove and install. It's light and easy to handle, so
that you can store it inside.
We understand there
are times when it becomes necessary to have some security for the
rack and your bike(s). We suggest cable lock(s) for the bike(s).
The cables can be routed through the bike's wheels and frames and
then through the safety chain loops of the car's hitch. If the
cables are also wrapped around the rack, additional security would
be provided to the rack itself.
If you additionally
want to secure the rack to the car, there are several options. We
suggest a locking hitch pin such as seen at the following website:
http://www.ontheball.com/pins_clips_locks.htm. They can also
be purchased at any U-Haul store or hitch related store.
Q. Can the Raxter carry
kids bikes?
A. We have loaded almost all
sizes of bikes. We have loaded 12", 20", and 24" kids bikes as
well as 26", 29" mountain bikes and road bikes. One cool thing
about the Raxter is that we have been able to load any combination
of the above bikes. No other rack can do this, however, Raxter can
because it is independent of wheelbase and the bikes can be moved
forward and back allowing "AutoNesting". The small (12" and 20")
bikes are limited on how much forward and back movement can be
achieved because of their small size. But, try loading a 12" bike
on a Sportworks. We have also loaded short and med wheel base
recumbents.
